The False Claims Act is one of the federal government’s primary tools for the enforcement of fraud, not solely but frequently in the healthcare industry. False Claims Act recoveries regularly number in the billions annually. In this webinar, we will discuss recent False Claims Act cases and settlements, not solely for what those cases and settlements teach about the enforcement and application of the False Claims Act itself, but what it reveals about the federal government’s priorities and theories regarding health care enforcement.  We will also discuss other major litigation between payors and providers for what those cases and investigations can reveal about the patterns of enforcement against healthcare providers.

About the Presenter:

Adam Laughton is a Shareholder at Greenberg Traurig in Houston, Texas, specializing in healthcare regulatory and transactional law.  Adam advises a wide range of clients and providers within the healthcare space, including facilities, physicians, pharmacies, laboratories, and other service providers. He also advises startups, entrepreneurs, and provider joint ventures.

Adam’s experience is centered on regulatory and compliance matters, such as HIPAA, Stark/Anti-Kickback, False Claims Act, and state law issues. He advises businesses on corporate and transactional matters ranging from reorganizations and mergers to the development of complex organizational and contractual structures.  Adam is also an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center, where he teaches on reproductive rights.
