Colonoscopy Billing & Reimbursement: Master Latest Payer Rules for Maximum Practice's Revenue

Course Description:

Colonoscopies are an important preventive care event and early detection of colon cancer. As with any other episode of malignancy cancer, the earlier it is identified, the easier to treat, the less expensive to treat, and the patient has a dramatically increased quality of life. Colonoscopies are covered by the Affordable Care Act as free to those who have health insurance. As physically unpleasant the experience may be, the process for medical coding specialists to report this procedure on a claim form should not be. Using the accurate procedure code and modifier are key to receiving optimal reimbursement and this all must be founded in the physician’s documentation.

We will discuss different types of Colonoscopy procedures and reimbursement strategies. In 2024 with the recent updates to patient coverage, it will be imperative that practices and facilities understand how the reimbursement will affect them. We will show you tips for Prior Authorization and make sure you understand coverage and documentation requirements. We will review the common billing errors made when billing for Colonoscopy procedures. We will discuss the Payer Guidelines for Commercial vs CMS Guidelines and proper Modifier Usage. Many payers require a specific order of Diagnosis code sequencing and misinterpreting these guidelines can lead to costly denials.
