Cardiac Catheterization & PCI Coding Excellence 2026: Improve Documentation, Coding and Revenue
Course Description:
Cardiology coding remains one of the most complex areas in healthcare, guided by an intricate web of CPT®, NCCI, and Medicare-specific rules. One of the most frequent sources of confusion stems from coding based on the service performed rather than the vessel treated. This webinar provides a clear and concise snapshot of cardiology anatomy and services, from basic diagnostics to advanced interventional procedures, helping business of healthcare professionals of all experience levels, whether new, intermediate, or seasoned, strengthen their confidence and accuracy.
This comprehensive session will dive into coding for cardiac catheterizations and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), including stents, angioplasties, and atherectomies. It will also address injection services, congenital heart defect procedures, and other specialized cardiovascular interventions.
Updates for 2025 and 2026: The program will highlight the new PCI codes for complex stenting and chronic total occlusion (CTO) interventions, revised RVU values, CPT® 2026 code set changes effective January 1, 2026, and ICD-10-CM updates effective October 1, 2025. Proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule adjustments for 2026 and their impact on cath lab reimbursement will also be reviewed.
Led by JMCI’s cardiology coding expert Kimberly Jolivette Williams, the webinar will further explore:
• Peripheral vascular studies of the lower extremities
• Pacemaker and defibrillator services
• Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC/Watchman) procedures
• And more essential cardiovascular services
With a focus on CCI edits, CPT® inclusions, modifier usage, and proper documentation, Kimberly will equip attendees with actionable strategies to avoid denials, promote compliance, and achieve equitable reimbursement.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain Clarity on 2025 Cardiology Coding Updates and Foundational Anatomy
- Review of new, revised, and deleted CPT® codes, including PCI changes and vascular family guidance
- Deepen your understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and its impact on coding accuracy
- Explore Appendix L for a practical overview of vascular families and how they guide procedural reporting
- Enhance Accuracy in Cardiac Catheterization and PCI Coding
- Learn how to report both diagnostic cardiac cath and PCI services correctly
- Understand bundling rules and identify new opportunities for compliant billing
- Clarify when coding multiple stents in the same vessel is appropriate
- Optimizing Reimbursement through Modifiers and Clinical Documentation
- Apply modifiers effectively to support medical necessity and reduce denials
- Decode Cath lab procedure report language to ensure correct CPT® code selection
